Community groups get a cash tonic

COMMUNITY groups across East London are almost £100,000 better off thanks to lottery funding being distributed in the latest round of awards.

The cash has been awarded to four groups in Newham and another eight based in Tower Hamlets.

The awards are part of a total of £642,886 being distributed to 83 groups across London from the Lottery's Awards for All programme.

The groups in Newham are Eastside Community Heritage, £9,965; Glory Community Accounting Services Ltd, £10,000; Communities Empowerment Network, £3,000 and the East London Buddhist Cultural Centre which was awarded £10,000.

The groups in Tower Hamlets are: Globe Community Project, £9,562; Somali Parents and Children Play Association, £9,606; Alpha Grove Community Trust, £10,000; Berner Estate Tenants Association, £5,000; Actors Touring Company (London) Limited, £10,000; The Digby Greenways (Tram Shed) Community Centre, £2,768; Sylhet Welfare Society UK, £9,940; and the Thames Bengali Association, which was awarded £10,000.
