Teenager in road death: Driver arrested

A BMW driver was arrested following a fatal road crash when a teenage pedestrian was killed on a pelican crossing on Bow Road early yesterday.

The male driver, suspected of causing death by dangerous driving, is bailed until March.

The tragedy happened at around 2.25am when the 19-year-old was in collision with a Blue BMW 330 saloon being driven towards Central London. The driver stopped.

London Ambulance Service and Air ambulance attended but despite their efforts the victim was pronounced dead.

Next of kin have not been informed and formal identification has yet to take place.

A Post Mortem and inquest is due to open and adjourn at Poplar Coroners Court on Tuesday.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information into the collision on the A11 close to the junction with Campbell Road.
