Plea after boy, 13, is attacked

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a disturbance in east London on Friday.

Police were called at approx 4pmto reports of between 20 and 30 youths fighting in Morpeth Street, Bethnal Green.

Officers and ambulancre crews attended the scene and discovered a male youth aged 13 - suffering head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he is now said to be in a stable condition with a fractured skull.

Officers from Tower Hamlets CID are investigating.

Det Sgt Richard Plant said: "This disturbance occurred outside a parade of shops in an area off Roman Road known locally as Market Square.

"It's a busy area and people will still have been out shopping at this time in the evening.

"We'd like to hear from anyone who saw what happened and anyone else who may have been involved that we have yet to speak to."

A 14-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody at an east London police station.
