Olympic spirit alive in Friendship Way!

20 July 2010
OLYMPIC spirit was celebrated in glorious sunshine by a Stratford school on the doorstep of the 2012 Games.

Team GB Olympians, fencer Pierre Harper and judo expert Siobhan O'Neill, were on hand to inspire teams at Carpenters Primary School in Friendship Way as they battled it out in a range of events on their very own Olympics Day.

Lisa Somerville, Year Two teacher responsible for Olympics projects, said: "It was such a special day enjoyed by all. The weather was lovely.

"The children released 400 balloons, which they watched fly over the Olympic Park."

As part of a special opening parade to celebrate the school's games, children unveiled national flags that were made in the classroom.

Volunteers from international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer helped make the day extra special for the youngsters.
