A Beckton primary school received a special visitor from across the pond to mark Earth Day.
Sonia Laul from the US Embassy helped the pupils at Kingsford Community School plant seeds that will be transferred to the school on Kingsford Way's memorial garden.
Earth Day was created by a US Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970 to inspire awareness and appreciation of the Earth's environment.
Year 8 student Albert Cobham said: "I've learned that in order to save the planet, everyone has to take part by just doing a few small things like planting seeds in your garden, using solar panels and not littering.
"I'm going to respect the planet more by making sure that I am not wasting electricity, not littering, planting seeds and being environmentally friendly. I believe if everyone does this the world will be a better place.
Classmate Amina Abdinur added: "Sonia's visit is one that I won't forget. Some of the things I have learnt about will affect the way I think and complete some of my everyday tasks.
"Now I feel the need to look after the earth by recycling and even getting dirty by planting some plants.
"I hope that the ideas of Copenhagen accord will make a lot of difference to the world so that future generations will be able to enjoy and love the earth as much as we have.
