OLYMPIC gold medallist Tessa Sanderson popped into a Canning Town school to ensure a week of events inspired by the Games came to a winning end.
The former athlete had to compete in a very different sport during the Games at the climax of Eastlea Community School's Olympic-themed week.
Swapping the javelin for and egg and spoon, Ms Sanderson tried to complete a lap of the school playing field without dropping her precious quarry.
She was given some tips on keeping the egg in one piece by the Year 7 students who had spent the week in lessons looking at the Games. The aim of the week was to raise awareness of the Games by bringing together all the departments in the school in a fun and educational way.
All Year Seven lessons have been focused around the 2012 Olympics, which will be held down the road in Stratford, with activities such as learning national anthems and creating objects to be used in the Friday sports day.
Lessons were suspended for the entire day so the students could compete with each other in a series of physical challenges.
The pupils had been divided into eight groups, each representing a country throughout the week. Darius Izukanne, 12 said: "I think it was excellent and would like to see it again next year."
"It was good - there's nothing like it", agreed Jam Khanom, also 12. Classmate Shannon Silva went a step further saying: "It was the best day of school I ever had." Frankie Casky, 12, added: "It was amazing. We did all different activities and it was good working with each other.
