NEWHAM under-13s started this Essex Schools' Cup Final as underdogs, but they rose to the occasion magnificently to lift the trophy in fine style.
A large and vociferous crowd, who were predominately supporting Chelmsford, greeted the Newham boys on a big pitch at Brentwood FC, but they made a bright start in the warm sunshine, and were ahead within 15 minutes.
A good ball was played forward by Spencer Forte and Tofeek Lamdi drilled home.
Newham continued to play some good football and a second goal followed when a quick turn and shot from the edge of the box from Daniel Barh gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Newham added a third just before half-time, when following a corner kick, Mitchall Victorin netted from close range.
Chelmsford started the second half on the attack and only some last-ditch defending from the Newham back four prevented a goal being pulled back.
However, Newham then regained control and eventually put the game beyond Chelmsford's reach when a good cross from the right hand side was put away well by Lamdi for his second of the game.
A strong team performance was rounded off with a perfect victory from Newham.
